065 Test Strip

Carried out the first run of paint stripping using Fairy Power Spray today and so far have had interesting results.

My mini choice was some very old metal servitor models that have been recoated at least a couple of times over their life and have had many years for the paint to set!

Here you an see the rather dull and lifeless last paint scheme before they drop into the cleaner

Fairy Power Spray is the first thing I am testing with as I have heard talk of residue and bad smells with dettol and the simple green that is popular in america seems overly expensive.

In the pot

Hard scrub after first 30mins shows some of the top layers going and in areas going through to the original metal. I hoped it would be quicker and easier but I am thinking that a longer soak would help so back in they go...

  1. How long did you let the minis soak? 24 hours is the best way to go imo. Just let em soak for a day and give them a scrub after that. If it is still not coming off, try another 24 hrs. I personaly use Blue Wonder. It works perfect for me and smells nice too. :-)

  2. this was jsut a test run to see how things would work.

after 30mins, not too much! better results a few hours later.

now leaving them to brew overnight :-)

  3. Wrong power spray, the Lemon one is the weaker and doesn't work. You can still but the original in Homebase.

    1. It certainly does seem weaker than I had read.

Longer soak seems to have done the job. I'll be posting more about it soon

  4. Can you get brown "Dethol" where you're from? If so, you should buy it. Strips models down over night and works with plastic and resin as well! :D

    1. Its certainly one I am going to be trying. Have heard of issues with white residue and bad smells though.

  5. I made some good experience with "Brennspiritus", but did not know that you can take Fairy to strip down models. Nice, will definitely give it a try!

    1. Not sure what the UK equivalent of that would be?

The Power Spray certainly works no problem :-)
